This marks quite a milestone in Dish Digest… today wraps up the first year of this project. It started out as a simple way to remember where we found a particular recipe, but it’s become a great way to think about what I eat, where I’ve been, and just how often “chocolate” appears in my tag cloud.

SATURDAY I ATE

Lunch: Chicken and cucumber on pita with hummus
Afternoon snack: chocolate chips
Dinner: Timpano. This was a freakin’ amazing meal that our friends have been making regularly for 15 years. I think they got the idea from watching this move, Big Night. Essentially, it’s a baked ziti in a pie crust, and it was amazing. Also a green salad.

Dinner #2: Timpano. Apparently, seconds were required.

Dessert: Chocolate and raspberry gelato.

FRIDDAY I ATE

Breakfast: Grapenuts, cranberry juice
Morning Snack: Apple
Lunch: Falafel sandwich at Liba Falafel in Oakland. This place was amazing, though quite pricey. The falafel is good, but the best part is the condiment bar. The one challenge is getting enough of the good stuff into the pita. The owner recommended smashing the falafel, then opening it up to squeeze more in. Others just get the salad so you can dump stuff on top. Either way, it’s tasty.
Afternoon snack: Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups. Coke Zero.
Dinner: Barney’s burger. Split a Western bacon burger and fries
Dessert: Hot cocoa because of the cold walk home.

Lunch: Turkey sandwich with cheddar cheese, cranberry jelly, hot pepper jelly, sourdough bread
Afternoon snack:Hot cocoa (the ridiculously rich recipe from Seriously Bittersweet

Dinner: Turkey with sort-of buere blanc sauce. We were out of white wine, so Suzanne used mirin, which gave it a really interesting vinegar taste. Also green beans, rice, and cranberry jelly.
Dessert: Experimental espresso brownies
