MONDAY I ATE

Breakfast: Grapenuts, cranberry juice
Morning Snack: Apple
Lunch: Turkey sandwich with cranberry juice. Stupidly, I forgot to use the rolls Suzanne made last night. Hope they are still good tomorrow.
Afternoon snack: Coke zero
Dinner: Ramen
Dessert: Leftover banana bars, also took a bit of the ganache from the top of them that was in the fridge… heated it up and poured it over thin slices of ice cream. It worked really well, and reminded me of the fresh-dipped bars you used to be able to get in Haggen Daz stores.

WEDNESDAY I ATE

Breakfast: Grapenuts, cranberry juice
Lunch: Turkey sandwich with cranberry
Afternoon snack: 2 milky way dark, coke zero
Dinner: Stuffed spinach and mushroom pizza from Zacchry’s
Dessert: Experimental persimmon cake (for Suzanne’s dad). It was way better than I was expecting… more like a carrot cake (which I also don’t love). So I’d never order it for my birthday, but I started with the smallest sliver I could cut and ended up going back for more.

THURSDAY I ATE:

Breakfast: Chocolate croissant at The Beach Monkey Cafe in Pacifica

LunchSandwich from Gherkin’s Sandwich Shop in Montara (big day for eating; OST teambuilding trip). I ordered the “West Coaster” a chicken, bacon, avocado monster. It was really good, but I resisted my natural inclination to skip the sourdough roll and that was a mistake. Sourdough rolls are one of the biggest sandwich fails. The bread tastes great, but it is so much tougher than the filling that it’s impossible to bite without squeezing all the sandwichy goodness out.

Afternoon snack: Coke Zero.

Dinner: Split a BBQ beef sandwich from Costco.

Dessert: More of the doughnut cake.

MONDAY I ATE

Breakfast: Grapenuts with cranberry juice

Lunch: Roast turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce from the Fat Cat Cafe. Awesome find! It reminds me of this lunch counter called Karlen’s Deli that used to be in the liquor store near my lab. Fresh roast turkey, soft roll, nice proprietor. I’ll be back.

Dinner: Ramen soup

Dessert: Ice cream.

TUESDAY I ATE:

Breakfast: Forgot. Damn, that’s why I’m so hungry.

Lunch Fried chicken sandwich from Bittersweet Cafe. I’ve been eyeing this sandwich for weeks, but always forget about it when I’m hungry. It was good, but I’m not sure I’ll go back. The lemon-mayo was good, but it suffers from a problem that bugs me about lots of sandwich rolls — too much crust. Not that I object to crust (isn’t that where all the nutrients are?), but if it’s hard, then when you bite it, out squishes the fried chicken. So I’ll stick to Bittersweet for the world’s best hot chocolate.

Afternoon snack:  Chocolate-chip cookie from Bittersweet.

Dinner: Leftover chicken, pasta with pesto, zucchini moons with gorgonzola.

Dessert : Leftover birthday cake.
