Creole Soul Chicken @ Red Bamboo
Red Bamboo is a vegetarian’s dream. It fuses healthy vegetable dishes with the warm, comfort of soul food. For a meat lover such as myself, I wasn’t sure how satisfied I would be consuming fake meat. But, I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. My girlfriend and I split one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, the Creole Soul Chicken ($6.95). The generously sized portion included seven pieces of crispy panko breaded “chicken” and a hickory-smoked vidalia dressing. The dressing was slightly sweet and perfectly complemented the spicy Cajun seasoning on the chicken. I found it absolutely necessary to pair each bite with a bit of the sauce, not because the chicken was too dry – in fact it was pleasantly moist – but because the combination was just too delicious to pass up. Overall, the Creole Soul Chicken dish satisfies a sweet and spicy craving, even for a meat lover.
